LEDs (light emitting diodes)  are semiconductor devices that produce visible light when an electrical current passed through them. They are solid state devices which produce light through a process called electroluminescence. LED bulbs use arrays of multiple LEDs along with special reflectors to replicate the patterns and brilliance of standard lights in many shapes and sizes. LEDs are now being incorporated into bulbs and fixtures for general lighting applications.

Advantages of LEDs:

  • Very efficient, consuming the lowest energy of any lighting product
  • Long lifetime
  • No mercury, making them a cleaner alternative to fluorescent and CFL lamps.
